Eiblin Koch
pronounced iblin
or if you really want to make sure you’ll remember it’s eye as in eyeball blink without the k. Eye blink, Eyeblin.
Eiblin Koch is an artist and illustrator who brings her curiosity towards and wonder of the natural world to her work. Often mixing mediums in order to fully capture textures Eiblin enjoys the fluidity of watercolour and gouache, reaching for cut or torn paper collage elements for bolder strokes and colours.
Raised in Southern Ontario, Eiblin moved to Halifax in 2014 to study Biology and Sustainability and fell in love with Canada’s East Coast. Struck by the need for the dispersal of ideas across disparate fields of study Eiblin turned back to her childhood love of art for its ability to concisely communicate complex ideas.
Drawing inspiration from children book illustrations, contemporary quiltmakers, and the landscapes around her Eiblin’s art holds a sense of home . In the art she creates, Eiblin seeks to communicate scientific concepts with warmth and humour.
Splitting her time between a school bus in the wilds of Cape Breton Island and a shared apartment in Toronto city Eiblin’s workspace changes with the seasons. When not at her desk, she loves to spend time with friends and family, hike in the woods, splash in streams, lakes, and especially oceans, tend her garden, and work with flowers.
